Some of these were built, and some were carved.
You can tell which ones. There is a straightness to them, a decision about where the window goes. Somebody stood on this cliff with a plan, and the plan was carried out.
The others are harder to account for. The rock opens into a room with a floor and a doorway and a red wall, and no record of anyone having opened it.
They are furnished. Somebody keeps them.
